How do I properly turn off my Chromebook?

We strongly advise you to make sure your students are shutting down the Chromebook at the end of school every day. Once it is shut down, plug it in to charge overnight. Repeat this best practice every day. Simply closing the lid on the Chromebook DOES NOT shut it off.

How to turn off your Chromebook

To turn off your Chromebook completely, try one of these options:

• At the bottom right, select the time. Select Power .

• At the bottom right, select the time. Select Sign out Shut down.

• Press and hold the Power key for 3 seconds.

• Press and hold the Power button until you see a menu to Power off or Sign out

Shutting down and restarting will help avoid audio, video and connectivity issues by resetting the Chromebook. Shutting down and charging every night will avoid totally discharging the battery and potentially locking up the Chromebook so it won't power back up.
